For the love of pink

Published Nov 20, 2017

OSHKOSH, Wis. (November 20, 2017) - Throughout the month of October, our senses are overloaded with a sea of pink. Everywhere from social media to the grocery store, you are encouraged to wear pink to demonstrate your support for Breast Cancer Awareness.  While there are many diseases plaguing our families with hardships – cancer seems to be one that many can relate to on a deeply personal level.

This year, Arrowhead Systems decided to come together and support those in our community who are experiencing these hardships. Arrowhead Systems operates out of two manufacturing locations: one in Randolph, Wisconsin (Busse/SJI) and one in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (Arrowhead Conveyor). So to show our support, each of our locations held two fundraisers. We started off the month by putting together a hot-dog cookout where our employees would donate $3.00/plate in exchange for lunch. About a week later we started to collect money for our “Pie-in-the-Face” fundraiser. This allowed anyone in the organization to donate as much money as they wanted to into jars that were designated to various members of our management team (at Busse/SJI and Arrowhead Conveyor). By the end of two weeks, whoever had the most money in their jar at both locations, would take a pie to the face. But there was a catch – if all of the participant’s jars received more than $50.00, all would get a pie in the face. Luckily, that was the case and all of our participants will receive a pie to the face.

Since our divisions operate in different communities, we wanted to be able to support organizations near each facility. In Oshkosh, we decided to partner with the HOPE Cancer Connection of the Fox Valley. HOPE was created to support families who are trying to cope with a cancer diagnosis. Their mission is to walk side-by-side with a family from the initial diagnosis when questions and fears are abundant, all the way to remembrance with tools and support – if that is the way their journey takes them. In addition, their website provides information on survivorship, caregiving, parenting, a children’s page for learning about cancer and its treatments, and much more. Their mission is to be a resource for those affected by cancer, and to provide the best information – all of their website content is approved by the Medical Advisory Council. A Time to Heal is their free cancer survivorship program that is designed to help “create your best life” after initial treatment/surgery is complete. Their next session will run from February 28th-May 16th and meets from 2:00-4:30 p.m. in the Spierings Conference room at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI. If you or anyone you know is interested in attending a session or simply learning more about the services HOPE provides, you can check out their website here.

Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation
In support of the Randolph area community, we partnered with the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation. Their mission is to “provide environments for women breast cancer survivors to heal emotionally. All programs are conducted by survivors for survivors.” Breast Cancer Recovery provides survivors a multitude of programs for support and emotional healing purposes. Some include Infinite Boundaries Retreats – 4-day wellness retreats that include discussions, arts, and low-impact activity, and education programs – sharing the knowledge is a program that provides breast cancer survivors, spouses, family, friends, healthcare professionals, and students with information on the latest medical advancements regarding breast cancer. For more information on the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation and the services they provide, you can check out their website here.
